After some tracking down of family history it was discovered that one of the families that married into her father's line had the genes for the Cynogriffin and they had just never manifested until Braewyn. It also appears to be one of those traits that can be whole or partial as she has some abilities not strictly associated with the Cynogriffin, namely her ability to use fire magic.
